Summary: The article mentioned about 'implicit bias' can lead to discriminatory behaviour. Harvard had created website called 'implicit website' concerning to help people to be more mindful and reduce discrimination from implicit bias people have within themselves. The test works by measuring how people press good or bad words along with the picture and also track how fast people press to answer. Later, people begin to argue that knowing implicit bias dose not change humans behavior but some believe that if we know our bias our behavior whould change.
Reaction: As I have done the IAT test, the results was unexpected. I took 3 of the test which one of my test is about 'Thin and Fat' and this topic is obviously about people's appearance. I was strongly believe that i did not identify people by their appearance and I open wildly for humans equality. However, the results of IAT test show that I was 'automatic prefer for thin people compared to fat people'. The results may not be 100 percent true in view of the fact that the test just measured from the mistakes that we made with the good and bad words. Nonetheless, this test has rise up my awareness of my behaviour since I do not want to criticize or discriminate people.
Question: How could someone strongly believe and bias in something without finding the fact ?
I took couple of the IATs too and I agree with you that IAT test is not 100% accurate. But since it is about unconscious bias so we might not realize ourself. However, The IAT test does give us some advantage, by taking the test, it has rise up our awareness like you said.
